Scion Will Add Another Model in Line Up
Scion is planning to expand its model line from three to four. Moreover, Jack Hollis, Vice President for Scion, declared that within two years, a replacement tC coupe will roll its way into the showrooms.
In the next decade, a long life span of one model design will not be the custom for Scion, as what happened to the tC coupe with its almost seven years’ worth of untouched design.
During the Detroit automobile show last January, Hollis said that the life span of each model’s design will be different. “”There are some that are going to be short. There are going to be three- to four-year life cycles,” said Hollis. “There are going to be some four to five, maybe five to six.”
He added that a fourth Scion model will be launched in two to three years. At present, it only offers three models: the five-door xB hatchback, tC coupe, and five-door xD. Scion sold 113,904 cars in the United States last year. They were down 12.5% compared to their 2007 sales figures.
Last year, Scion revealed the Hako Coupe concept in the New York auto show, debuting style that the car company will utilize if a fourth model would be a coupe. Hollis said that there are only a few coupe entries, but the new Scion tC model expresses “how people are attracted to a good-value coupe.”
Hollis has a lot of confidence for a second coupe. “We think there are a lot of opportunities for a [second] coupe,” he said. “”We think there is room for a bigger sedan and smaller vehicles. We think there is even a possibility for a truck-based vehicle with an open bed.”
