Mercedes reveals plans to unveil straight six engine, smaller V8s, and 4-cylinders
Mercedes-Benz recently disclosed its plan to use a new family of engines that will involve four-cylinders, toned down V8s, and even straight sixes. These engines might be installed in under the hood of full-sized Mercs starting 2015.
It is no surprise that the German luxury car manufacturer will head towards this direction as its rival in Munich has been using straight six engines for their vehicles.
You might be surprise like everyone else but there is a family of powerplants like the big bore V8s and low-cost fours. These engines will be replaced by downsized 4.0L units with turbochargers. But the replacement of the V6 might have caused some people to wonder.
Mercedes will be reviving their in-line six which will be perfect for their bigger vehicles. Daimler insiders shared that it may come as a single or twin turbo variant.
After the alliance with the Renault and Nissan empire and with the inflow of engines like the 3-cylinder and 4-cylinder diesel and petrol engines to be used for smaller Mercs, one might come to think that the Mercedes-Benz of today might just have a different feel compared to the future rides from this brand.
